Is the Microchip the Mark of the Beast?

Since when could a microchip be described as a 'mark'? Last time I checked microchips were always implanted invisibly! (Oxford Dictionary: "mark, ...visible sign, stain, spot, or dent on something..." NB 'visible' sign.)
