Afterwards - Not Instead - that which is Spiritual

There isn't another Temple to be built.

During the captivity, the prophets predicted a rebuilt Temple and a restored Levitical priesthood. They also predicted Messiah would then visit that Temple.

And it happened. The Temple was rebuilt and the sacrificial system was re-inaugurated in Jerusalem. And Messiah visited that Temple, precisely as predicted.

Those predictions were written so we would be assured by both Scripture and history that Jesus is both Lord and Messiah.

Yes the Lord of the Temple is greater than the Temple.

The Temple was rebuilt, in fulfilment of prediction. That Temple was a type. Jesus both visited that temple, and He also fulfilled the type by being the true Temple.

So predictive Scripture + historical fulfilment = proof for Jesus.

But if we overlook the historical fulfilment of predictive prophecy, and instead futurise it or spiritualise it, we lose the Scripture as proof that the historical Jesus was Lord and Messiah.
