The Gospel

Jesus said that Isaiah's prophecy about the Spirit of the Lord being upon me to preach the gospel to the poor, was fulfilled in His day.

So, the term 'gospel' originated in Old Testament prophecy.

Isaiah 61

Good tidings.

Preach it. That is, report it. Announce it. Proclaim it.

It's the message of a better day. A message of inheritance. It binds up the brokenhearted; it's a proclamation of liberty to the captives; it's the opening of the prison to them that are bound; it's the proclamation of the acceptable year of the Lord; it comforts all that mourn; it appoints unto mourners beauty for ashes, the oil of joy, the garment of praise. It makes people righteous by the Lord's own doing. It glorifies His mercy.

Isaiah 40

It's a comforting message. Your warfare is accomplished. Your iniquity pardoned. It's the Lord - God - coming. It's the revelation of the glory of God. It's the victory of God. His strength. His rule. His reward. His work. His feeding. His shepherding. The love of God.

Isaiah 52

It's a message of peace. Of good. Of salvation. Of God's reign. It's the arm of the Lord made bare.
