The Present and Future in Bible Prophecy

Douglas MacArthur didn't achieve everything he'd promised to achieve, the moment he waded ashore that October day and said, "People of the Philippines, I have returned!”. It took some time!

But the point is: when eyewitnesses saw him wading ashore, it wasn't to do something 'else' - something disconnected to his promise and purpose when he'd said, "I shall return". It was directly related to it!

It wasn't the finish of it - but it was the start of it.

And together, that's how it was all always going to have to be!

Same with Bible Prophecy. The Apostles weren't saying that everything God had Promised had already happened - they still looked forward to some things.

But their point wasn't that this thing they called 'the gospel' was just something 'else' - something hardly related to Old Testament Prophecy at all. The gospel was directly related to the Promise and Prophecy!

It wasn't the finish of it - but it was the start of it.

And together, it's exactly the way it was all always going to have to be.

So, the future won't involve reverting back to an old system - the future will just be the final rollout of what's already now been inaugurated through the cross and resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

The future will therefore be Christ-centred and gospel-shaped - it won't involve offering animal sacrifices again.
