About Fulfilling the Law

In the New Covenant, God has given us a new heart, written His laws in our new hearts, put His Spirit within us, and causes us to walk in His ways.

But what law is that? Which law has He written in our new hearts?

The former Old Testament law?

A new law!

Jesus instituted a new commandment:

"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another" (John 13:34).

The Apostle Paul put it this way:

"For the priesthood being changed, THERE IS MADE OF NECESSITY A CHANGE ALSO OF THE LAW" (Heb.7:12).

There is a new commandment!

There has been a change of the law.

The first covenant was their law. Since the first covenant was their law, it follows that a change of covenant meant that there was to come also a change of law. A change of law is concomitant with a change of covenant.

The first covenant stated that there was to come a change of covenant, that is, a change of law.

Therefore anyone who now attempts to keep the former law thereby breaks a point of the very law which he purports to keep.

The law which he seeks to keep included its own sunset clause. By attempting to keep the former law beyond the date of its own sunset clause, he therefore breaks a point of the very law which he claims to keep.
Therefore only those who follow the new law - the law of Christ - truly fulfil the former law in its entirety.

Everyone else offends the law on some point.

He offends the law itself by even attempting to keep the law, since the law itself said that it would be changed.
