Be Filled with the Spirit

I'm not sure that I like the term "drunk in the Spirit". I prefer to call it "filled with the Holy Spirit".

I believe in being filled with joy.

And I know it's difficult sometimes for some people to stand up under the weight of the glory.

All of that is Scriptural.

And to an observer who doesn't know any better, it could seem like someone is drunk - but they're not drunk, they're filled with the Spirit and with joy!

Drunkenness is listed along with adultery and witchcraft in a list of works of the flesh which, if a person does, Paul said he shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Gal.5:19-21). Why therefore would you want to associate the Holy Spirit with something that seriously wrong?

"Be not drunk with wine," Paul said, "but be filled with the Spirit" (Eph.5:18) - not because being filled with the Spirit is the equivalent in every sense of getting drunk, but because in some ways being filled with the Spirit is the exact opposite of getting drunk!
