Interpretation of Tongues

by John Edwards

Speaking with tongues is one of the gifts of the Spirit which God has set in the church, Paul said.
So also is the gift of the INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES.
I remember one time a good friend of mine was on the roster to preach at church. When he got up on stage, he said something like:
"I feel that I'm meant to speak in tongues first; and that brother so-and-so will then give the interpretation."
So he spoke in tongues briefly, then brother so-and-so came forward and held the microphone.
"Come and be healed - come and be healed physically and emotionally, says the Lord," he said.
So without further ado, my friend invited all who needed healing to come forward for the laying-on-of-hands.
And a great many people got touched by the power of God! There was shaking, tears, people unable to stand - and a number of people had demons come out of them.
After seeing and hearing that, the congregation were all-the-more eager to hear what my friend might preach about that morning!
Often God wants to do something more in our services - and very often TONGUES and the INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES can be the doorway to it.
"God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, DIVERSITIES OF TONGUES" (I Corinthians 12:28).
"...to one is given by the Spirit...the INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES" (12:8,10).
"Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret" (14:13).

"...forbid not to speak with tongues" (14:38).
